Facets Film 101 Summer Program
Make a film this summer! Celebrating camp's 25th year! Kids and teens ages 7–14 explore the exciting world of film with fun activities, creative learning, and team building exercises. If you are interested in the Facets Summer Program, there may be a possible scholarship opportunity. Film 101 - Program Description:
Under the guidance of our expert instructors, young movie lovers learn the foundation of movie making, appreciation, and criticism. During camp, young creative kids collaborate in an engaging environment that builds self-confidence and develops critical thinking skills through screenings, discussions, and creative, hands-on exercises that include making a movie and opinion writing.
What Campers Learn
Space in the program is limited and applications are processed on a first-come, first-served basis. Once their application has been received, we will correspond with the families directly. Children who have not participated in Facets Film 101 will be asked to attend an orientation session.

- An original short group film

- Days: Monday–Friday
- Times: 9:00 a.m.–5: 00 p.m.
- Lunch: Campers their own bring lunch

Open Books Publishing Academy Summer Program
Do you know a 7th or 8th grader interested in becoming a writer? Open Books Publishing Academy is a great answer to your summer camp needs!
Publishing Academy 2019 will feature:
- A five week intensive starting July 8, followed by workshops on the second Saturday of each month from August to April.
- Guidance from teachers and volunteer writing coaches.
- Consultation from industry professionals about design and publication, as well as advice from published authors.
- Peer relationships with like-minded teens who share a love for creative writing!
- A published novel that will be celebrated in a book release party at the end of the program for friends and family!
What: An intensive writing workshop experience that takes students from blank page to finished – and published – novel.
Where: Open Books West Loop (651 W. Lake St.)
When: Five intensive weeks starting July 8 to August 8 (Monday – Thursday), from 9am–2pm (45min lunch break, lunch not provided) followed by workshops on the second Saturday of each month from August–April.
Who: 7th–12th grade authors
How: Applications for Publishing Academy will be considered on a rolling basis. The Publishing Academy Team will review the candidate’s application, writing sample, and financial aid application (if applicable). Once reviewed, all accepted students will be invited to interview at our West Loop office.

- $550 Early Bird (registered by March 15)
- $600 Regular (registered by May 10)
- $650 Deadline (registered by June 7)
Plus: Each session culminates in a book release party at the award-winning Open Books store. Friends and family gather to hear excerpts from the newly published novels, and join in a toast to their authors’ achievements.
